As part of the virtual American Sociological Association annual meeting, on August 8-11, 2020, the Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity (AMSS) section is hosting 3 virtual engagement events.

Award Ceremony

The first event is a virtual award ceremony for the AMSS section that features award committee chair remarks and award presentations for the prestigious winners of the section's lifetime achievement, distinguished book, outstanding article, and graduate student paper awards.

Panel Discussion on Generosity, Morality, and Altruism:

Global Studies of Cross-Cultural Values

The second event is a virtual panel discussion session. This panel aims to advance cross-cultural approaches to studying generosity, morality, and altruism. The purpose is to better understand other-oriented activities across cultural contexts. In particular, the panel will focus on these understudied world regions: Asia, the Middle East and Turkey, Africa, and Latin America. The panel is organizer and presider is Patricia Snell Herzog, and the six panelists are:

The third event is the AMSS Section Business Meeting. This event will be live on Saturday, August 8th at 4:30pm-5:10pm PDT (7:30pm-8:10pm EDT).
